Vintage Rome

photobVINTAGE2Back in 2005 my perennially hip Acland St neighbor Rebecca Zemunik was in Rome and on the hunt for vintage clothes and shoes.  I clearly remember her raving about some shop she had found in Florence full of incredible Italian design treasures and feeling a bit inadequate in not having the first idea where to direct her.  It takes time to get to know a city, and slowly Vintage Rome has reveled herself.

Frankenstein. (photo right) A favorite, not just because Flavia owns it but because I have found many a gem here, most recently Vintage Prada shoes for a special event in Milan.  Via di S. Dorotea, 22.  Trastevere.  Open Lun – Sat, morings and afternoons

Moll Flanders.  Maison de Recouture, Via dei Capocci, 72 Rhione Monti

Rechicle.  Great Labels, Bags and accessories.  Piazza dell’Unita, 21. tel 06 3265 2469

Via del Governo Vechhio.  Not worth noting individual stores because this street is full of little bolt holes that sell old stuff, from standard vintage coats and leather jackets to more upmarket couture shops.

Retro.  (photo left) One of the originals.  No clothes but fabulous furniture, jewelry and accessories.  Opposite Bar del Fico (photo centre) Piazza del Fico, 21.  Tue – Sat 11-13, 16-20.  Mon 16-20.
